As we move closer to the summer break, more people are making travel plans. The process is complicated– searching for the best prices, booking reservations, and investigating COVID travel rules and restrictions. Regardless of whether you are taking a computer, tablet, or only a phone, you need to take technology security precautions prior to your trip. International travel greatly increases the risk of your information and data being compromised, whether through theft or intrusion.

To help you with your technology strategy, the Information Security Office (ISO) has developed advice for before, during, and after traveling. Read the KnowledgeBase article, Tips for Traveling with Technology.

As a member of the Rice community, you need to help protect Rice data and resources. Rice policies explain that you are responsible for keeping your risk low and the information and devices you use protected.

Following ISO's advice will give you peace of mind about both your personal technology and university-owned technology, so you can focus on enjoying your journey. If you need further clarification, contact the OIT Help Desk.
